Real time detection and replacement of graphics and logos in video streams is an extension of the systems for real time detection and replacement of TV advertising developed and patented by our parent company, Half Minute Media. Those systems have allowed operators to automatically insert targeted advertising on their TV screens during national broadcast ad breaks. The TV Ad Tech systems will enhance that service by allowing venue operators to also insert their own choice of graphics and logo onto their television screens during live events in a way that doesn't clutter the screen with graphics additional to those inserted by the broadcaster. This system will be useful to any venue that needs to comply with the ruling in the FAPL v QC Leisure case which requires that logos and graphics that are not authorised for viewing in the UK are eliminated from broadcasts. For such venues it is also possible to add audio detection and audio muting if required.
This video shows the TV Ad Tech patented system for logo and graphic detection in action. The sequence has been slowed down to allow you to see the effectiveness of the system in detecting both animated and static features. The window shows a sample of what the output of the system can look like with the detected logos and graphics replaced. Note that none of the replacement graphics are permanent overlays – they disappear again once the logos included in the original broadcast disappear. This leaves the screen free of logos and graphics at times when there are none in the original broadcast.
Some of the detected graphics have been replaced with images that are slightly smaller so that viewers can still see the original for demo purposes.
